One of my favorite things about Allie's birthday was sitting her down on my lap and going through old blog posts and remembering all the fun things she did as a toddler and even the cute pictures from just last year. She sat on my lap and giggled as we read about her finding rotten plums in the sand box and eating them days later, or about the mouse they wanted to adopt named Helen. Helen obviously came before it became tradition to name everything alive "Bob". I am usually nostalgic and sad when I go through old pictures and videos, but it was fun for us both to see the cute things she did and laugh about how much she's changed.
I say that I don't know what I'd do without my Allie girl and I mean it. Allie is an amazing helper throughout the day. She has young legs that are always willing to run and chase Nate. She can get there faster than I can and never tells me that she doesn't want to chase. She just does it.
She compliments every member of this family on a cute hairstyle, or a nice tie, or a good coloring job on a picture. She rejoices in every accomplishment and is genuinely happy for others when they succeed.
She isn't without her faults. We work on things daily, but that's exactly what this life is for. We make mistakes and we learn from them.
Allie got a letter in the mail telling her who her kindergarten teacher will be and she was thrilled to find out she'd be sharing a class with Lily. She is a 6 year old now and ready to face the world. Allie has always been ready for the next step. I love her and am confident in her abilities. I am so grateful that 6 years ago that girl was placed in my arms. She puts her trust in me daily and I am glad she forgives my failings and loves me more than I could have ever dreamed of.
What a fun kid.
Back to the birthday stuff...
She woke up to balloons and her favorite cereal for breakfast.
Nate didn't waste any time asking her to share.
Here's the birthday girl with two of her brothers. (Note: Nate isn't participating in the usual group picture scream fest because he has a "bapple" and two balloons tight in his grip)
She got to open one of her gifts in the morning...a matching outfit for her and her doll.
She had a party that afternoon with her little neighbor friends. She wanted to do an Olympics party. This was the Olympic swimming pool cake. Can't you see the little swimmers? Mike teased me about them and tried to shove a Lego character into the cake as a swimmer. Just so you can avoid getting snapped at next time Mike, you don't do stuff like that to a pre-party girl who doesn't have time to fill up water balloons and worry about the state of the swimmers in a cake.
Allie loved it and that's all that matters.
For the Olympic events, we had diving...
Hurdle relays...
A balance beam...
Water balloon volleyball...
And other various gymnastic routines with the trampoline. The girls all had a good time and did America proud.
That night, Allie got to open up a few more gifts and was excited to get a fishing lure and a BB gun from Mike. Nothing says happy birthday to a 6 year old girl like a BB gun :)
It was a wonderful day and a good day to celebrate having this cute girl in our lives. Happy birthday Allie! Thanks for being our sweet little girl and for all you do for me and our family. We all love you!
