Today, Nathan opened the door to his teacher standing on our porch with a bag of goodies. There were all kinds of survival things because they read Hatchet and talked about surviving alone in the forest. There were also some rewards for reading counts points and for other math rewards he had earned throughout the school year.
It also came with some of his art projects...
As I was looking through the pages, there were things that he had filled out as a journal of sorts, documenting the year. But then there were lots of blank pages that were waiting to be filled out. The leprechaun trap (that he had started working on before the closure), the egg drop, several field trips...it's all just stuff that won't happen this year.
It's sad.
We're doing fine. We're glad to be healthy. We're glad to do our part to "slow the curve". But, it is still sad to miss out on some of the fun things of the year.
We're glad to have had as many opportunities that we were able to have before this all went down. There will be more fun things down the road. But it's also okay to be sad.
However it all goes, Nathan had a great experience and certainly an unforgettable third grade year.
Now, on to 4th!?!
